When I first met Steve Reynolds in 1965
during my first year at Michigan State,
I was impressed by how well he played
the guitar. By my graduation day in 1968,
when I wrote my first song, Steve had
joined forces with Gary Hath. The first
time I heard them together, I knew I had
found that Simon & Garfunkel sound that
I wanted for my songs. Then when I heard
Marsha Day add her beautiful voice to
the mix, I knew I had that Peter, Paul,
and Mary sound that I also loved.
During
the next four years , I wrote the 25 songs
on this album and found time to get Steve,
Gary, and Marsha to record them on my
TEAC 4-track tape recorder in the midst
of becoming an inner city teacher in Detroit,
earning my master degree from Oakland
University, and hitchhiking about 37,000
miles in search of and to try to fulfill
my life's dreams.
Upon retiring
after 32 years of teaching in Detroit,
I finally had time to put the songs together
in a package. While producing the CD in
my modest home recording studio, I learned
that transforming old recordings to the
digital age is a real humbling challenge.
I trust that you will enjoy these songs
performed with Gary's infectious strums,
Steve's intricate picking and Marsha's
wonderful piano playing.
